Our Bake Shop

Our Bake Shop is dedicated to the memory of Joan “Nanny” Delfino. We followed her original family recipes to make everything the way she taught us. Mouth-watering baked goods are at the heart of the success of Apple Hill™ Grower Farms. Kids Inc. Delfino Family Farm and Joan Delfino’s bake shop was a big part of that success early on. It was decided that a giant bake sale would be held one year in the hopes of attracting visitors to the area. It far exceeded any expectations and the ranches had to expand to accommodate their annual visitors. We’ve fine-tuned our recipes over the years and take pride in the quality, homemade products we sell.

Home of the Walkin’ Pie

Back when all the seven kids were young, Nanny developed this pie for her children to eat.  Of course, they would always want to eat apple pie when she made it for the customers.  But giving them plates and forks left her with a big mess.  So she put some dough on the bottom, a circle of spiced apples for the filling, and then a piece of dough on the top.  She baked it and when it cooled she handed to them and told them to go eat it outside.  They ate it kind of like a hamburger.  When the youngest son, Edio Jr., was six years old (back in 1974) he began calling this little creation a “walkin’ pie” because you could walk around with it. Farmhouse Pie

Nanny and Papa planted 2600 apples trees and you could imagine how many apples those trees produced!  She began making the 5 pound “Farmhouse” pie which could feed a farmhouse full of people.  Her hope was that the visitors to the ranch would buy lots and lots of apples and duplicate this pie for their families.  I supposed this happened but mostly, visitors just came back to buy Nanny’s Farmhouse Pie.  They served it to friends and family and at big Thanksgiving dinners.  It was (and still is) a big favorite! Cottage Pie

This pie is the same recipe as the Farmhouse Pie but 3 pounds of apples– made with cottage-sized families in mind. SPECIAL ORDER FORM

Apple Crisp

We probably make 200 apple crisps on any given October weekend–each container feeds three people.  We use Granny Smith apples which are sweet so we are able to add less sugar (more healthy).  Later in the season we use Granny Smiths. The chopped apple filling is cooked and then topped with a brown sugar/flour/butter crumb topping. SPECIAL ORDER FORM

French Apple Pie

Some people would refer to this pie as a “Dutch Crunch Apple Pie”.  But Nanny was French, so she called it the French Apple Pie.  We use sliced apples and cook them slowly adding a touch of cinnamon for flavor. We top the cooked apples with a sugar/butter crumb topping and pop it back in the oven to brown the topping.  Voila! SPECIAL ORDER FORM

New York Style Cheesecake Apple Pie

This is our newest pie here at Kids Inc–the Delfino family loved this cheesecake so much when we enjoyed it during the holidays that we decided to top it with apples and add it to our menu!  You have to try it to believe it. Creamy but not too sweet.  I think our visitors are glad we added it … It’s proven to be one of our top sellers.
